Skincare: Where to start?

Starting a skincare regime can be overwhelming. But start simple and through understanding and learning what works best for your skin type it will become easier.

Work out your skin type.

Oily, dry, combination.. Once you know your skin type it will be easier to identify what products will work for you. Visit a skincare brand counter for a consultation - Kiehls does a great consultation, followed by product and ingredient recommendation.

Cleanser

Cleansers are the staple of your skincare routine, do not cut corners here! Cleansers help wash away substances that can lead to clogged pores and dull skin. Starting with a clean face allows the skincare products you use afterwards to work even better. Cleansers come in an array of textures; oil, balm, cream, foam.. Each work better with certain skin types over others - so again identifying your skin type will help you choose the correct texture cleanser.

Toner

Toners, often overlooked in a skincare routine but add vital skin-replenishing ingredients immediately after cleansing. They also help diminish the look of redness and dry patches, while removing the last traces of makeup. Well-formulated toners hydrate, refresh, and rebalance skin, among other benefits.

Moisturiser

Not only do moisturisers soften and hydrate the skin, but they also act as a protecting barrier. Used daily, moisturisers improve skin’s appearance, helping to keep it feeling smooth, plumped, and soft.

Sunscreen

Even if you spend most of your time inside, it’s still extremely important to use a facial sunblock daily as defence against skin ageing. Don’t forget: sunscreen should be applied regularly throughout the day if you’re spending extensive time outdoors.

Doing the most…

Serums

Serums can be an addition to your skin care routine to optimise your skin health, anti-aging, and hydration. Serums filled with antioxidants and other anti-aging ingredients help defend your skin from environmental assault, including the visible effects of pollution. Top Serums to start with Hyaluronic Acid (Hydration) and Vitamin C (Brightness and Collagen production).

Exfoliants

Environmental damage and other factors cause the surface of the skin to become dull, rough, and uneven. Exfoliating eliminates this buildup, which otherwise would cause clogged pores and uneven skin tone, and worsen the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Eye Treatments

The skin around your eyes is thinner than the rest of your complexion and doesn’t contain as many oil glands resulting in dryness, fine lines and puffiness. This area needs a little extra TLC, which is where an eye cream or treatment comes in to hydrate and promote cell regeneration.
