How to treat dry skin.
Let’s think of dry skin as external, on the surface (outer layer) of the skin - this is the part we need to treat. Use a gentle cleanser which moisturises the skin rather than strips it -Oil based and Cream cleansers are good for dry skin. Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise - rich, emollient moisturisers are great for the skin - think brands such as Cerave, E45 and Aveeno for the caring daily moisturisers suitable for face and body. Avoid fragranced products, very hot water and long showers/baths.
How to treat dehydrated skin.
To treat dehydrated skin, let’s think about it being internal - getting into those skin layers.
Drink plenty of water.
Glycerin is your friend.
Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is your best friend.
Antioxidant Serum i.e. Vitamin C.
Glycerin is an iconic ingredient when it comes to moisturising - it is a humectant i.e. it PULLS water into the outer layer of the skin from deeper skin levels and the air.
Hyaluronic Acid (HA) already exists in our skin. However, dehydrated skin is a sign HA has decreased in your skin (through daily life) resulting in fine lines, wrinkles, tightness… etc. The role of HA is to retain water in the skin. Using a HA product not only puts HA back into the skin but also retains moisture and reduces dehydration.
So, Glycerin PULLS water in and Hyaluronic Acid KEEPs water in. Combine the two and you’re winning at life.
